Phillips Guild Governance

The Phillips Music Guild is governed by a Board of Directors.  These directors serve 2-year terms
and are typically involved in the Guild activities on a hands-on basis.

Board of Directors

Ed Engledow, President, is the semi-retired Chaiman of Engledow Group – a major horticultural services organization based in Indianapolis.  Ed is a “come-back” musician.  After  playing in Bob Phillips groups as a young student, he did not play for some 40 years.  After rediscovering  the magic of playing music and encouraged by a Guild member whom he knew from those early years, Ed is now involved with various non-profit music initiatives with a focus on creating “ignition points” for students to discover themselves through the learning of a music instrument.  Ed’s instrument is trumpet.

Dick Garzon

Dave Gerow, Vice President, is a lifelong trumpet performer and mentor.  As a retired international information service company executive, he credits his great music mentors Jim Edison, Gerald Knipfel and of course Bob Phillips for both his business success and his love of music.

Lee Jones Dr. Jones serves as music director for the Phillips Music Guild's adult performing groups, and is also director of the Apprentice and Journeyman ensembles.

Ryan Malone

Kathi Niccum EdD  Kathi has a career background in clinical psychology and administrative leadership.  However, her Phillips Music Guild involvement comes from seeing her daughter Chelsea expand her music skills and confidence as a participant in the Guild’s programs.  Chelsea joined the Phillips Music Guild as a middle school student and has now graduated from college with a degree in Music.  As a parent who enjoys listening to good music, she took her daughter to practices, attended the concerts and now continues to attend Phillips Wind Ensemble and Jazz Renegades concerts as her daughter performs and grows musically as a member of those groups.

Craig Parmerlee, Secretary,  is a low brass performer and an active arranger/composer.  He performs regularly with many ensembles throughout the community.  Professionally he is the technology manager for a large automobile rental chain.

Beverly Sargent, Treasurer

Jim Stroh is a retired Indianapolis Public Schools Montessori teacher with a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Evansville University, a Masters degree from Butler University in Elementary Education and a Masters in AMS Montessori certification from Xavier University.   Jim’s instrument is French horn.  In additional to his Guild involvement, he also mentors students at the middle and high school levels at Indianapolis Attucks, Broad Ripple, Shortridge and Tech.

Angela Werle is one of the Phillips Music Guild’s lifelong members. She began playing the flute in third grade and joined the Guild two years later.  While flute and voice remain her primary instruments, she also dabbles in piccolo, French horn and keyboard.  Her start with the Guild has enabled her to play with a variety of other Indianapolis based music organizations.  In 2009 Angela received her Bachelor’s in Biology from Purdue University and is now employed as a Scientist at DOW AgroSciences in Indianapolis.

Moe Whittemore is the Phillips Music Guild’s “Mr. Wizard”.  With an undergraduate  degree from Purdue University in Electronic Engineering and a Master’s degree in Music Composition from Butler University,  Moe’s diverse successful creative career path – resulting in him being granted three patents – allows him to provide unusual teaching moments for Guild students as he explores the technology of sound and music composition with them.  Moe is a skilled oboe and English horn player.
